Who invented cereal, and why?
It was invented by Dr. John Harvey Kellogg in 1902 (although he started trying with wheat flakes in 1885 after a dream showed him how to do it). He wanted to use diet to suppress all sexual desire, and thought that cereal would accomplish this. He was horrified when sugar was first added, believing that this would ruin the point of your cereal making you have no carnal desires whatsoever. As a side note to this subject, I'd like to say that Grape Nuts were originally touted as a cure for tuberculosis.
